Unalaska District Court

Unalaska District Court lies within the Third judicial district of Alaska. Broadway avenue is the main street of Unalaska and Captains Bay road comes up from the South.

Unalaska sits beteen Iliukliuk Harbor waters (Part of Iliukliuk bay) and Unalaska lake. The name of this town was meant to standard the spelling of several versions of its name and it had previously been known as Iliuliuk. The native Unangan people were inhabitants of the island of Unalaska for many years. Aroun 1759, the natives began to trade with the Russian who shortly thereafter took control. The Russian influence grew with the arrival of a Russian Orthodox missionary who rebuilt the the Orthodox chapel and contributed to the interpretation of the church to the native language. During World War II, the island was occupied by U.S. armed forces which was not a good experience. Natives, along with others in the Aleutian area, were removed from the island and interned in camps in Southeast Alaska. The Museum of the Aleutians has on display ethnographic, Russian, American, WWII and artwork collections intended to preserve the history of the of the Aleutian Islands region. The city of Unalaska maintains two recreational centers. The the community center has a full-size gym, an indoor track, racquetball courts, a weight room, an aerobics room, a workout center with exercise machines and equipment and specialized rooms for activities such as art, ceramics and music. Thge Aquatic center, located in Unalaska City School, has a standard size pool a warming pool, slide and sauna. This center is also equipped with a workout room with cardio equipment, weights and a punching bag. In addition the city maintains several public parks, one of which Kelty field has a softball field with an electronic scoreboard, a fitness track, an all-purpose court, a play area for children and a picnic area.
