Nome Superior Court

Nome Superior Court is in Alaska's Second judicial district. Font street, River street, Nome Bypass road and Nome-Teller highway are all major streets in the Nome area.

Nome got its start as a place called Anvil city when three swedish immigrants, known as "Three Lucky Swedes", discovered gold on on Anvil creek a couple of years before the end of the 19th century. In one year this city had a population of almost 10,000. Whwn additional finds of gold were made in the are thousands started coming to the area by steamship. The Carrie M. McLain Memorial museum has exhibits representative of the history of the Nome Gold Rush including the rush of almost 40,000, the arrival of Wyatt Earp, the formation of the Nome Kennel Club, the first long distance sled dog race, the All Alaska sweepstakes and the lifestyles and art of the Bering Strait Eskimo. The Nome recreation center is well equipped with an indoor swimming pool, a full size gymnasium, weight room, multi-purpose room, rock wall and racquetball court. The city also has several parks including a skatepark and softball fields.The Fireman's carnival is held each year at the recreation center in early December.
