Tok District Court is in the Fourth judicial district of Alaska. SR 1 and SR 2 (Alaska highway) meet in Tok.
About the area
Tok now has an important position in the region; the Athabascan Native villages of Northway, Tetlin, Tanacross, Mentasta, Eagle and Dot Lake carry out their trade here. It was originally a camp for the construction of the Alcan and Glenn Highways in the 1940's. In the 1970's the U.S. Coast Guard built a Long Range Aid to Navigation station (LORAN) here. Each March the Tok Dog Mushers Association Race of Champions is held here. Its final event is the Junior Race of Champions. Not surprising that this event is held here, the town is known as "Sled Dog Capital of Alaska". The Tok Mainstreet Visitors center, a massive, 7,000-square-foot lodge is considered by many to be Alaska's largest log structure. The center has on display Alaska rocks, gems and fossils; items related to gold rush history; Alaska wildlife and waterfowl exhibits and Alaska Highway memorabilia.
