Nenana sits on the Tanana river. This city is the home of the guessing game Nenana Ice Classic. Guess when the ice will give way on the Tanana River and you could walk home with $350,000. all those who have purchased tikets for a chance to enter this guessing game gather around a tripod set up on the river, once a year, to see it tip over when the ice starts to break. The Alfred Starr Cultural Center and museum has exhibits related to the history and culture of the local Athabascan Indian heritage of Nenana. There also displays of St. Mark's Mission history and other historically significant events. |
