Daphne is known as the Jubilee City because of the phenomenon known as a "Jubilee". This event brings blue crabs, shrimp and fish into the shallow waters of the shoreline, ready to be scooped up by those waiting to fill their ice chests. This is an exciting time for locals who are ready with lanterns, giggs, scoop nets, buckets, baskets, tubs, canvas sacks, to harvest the anticipated bounty of seafood. The new Daphne Civic center is a centerpiece for community events.
