| About the area |
Iin the early 1840's, Piedmont was nothing more than a community located at the crossroads of two early post roads. However; in the late 1840's a gentleman from North Carolina came here, bought land from one of the first landowners in the area and established the town. Although he gave the town one of its first names, Cross Plains. Piedmont is a terminus of the Chief Ladiga Trail a recreational trail converted from the former Seaboard/CSX Railroad rail right of way into a recreational bike and walking trail. The Piedmont Sports Complex is a facility with baseball, softball and soccer fields. The field house includes rest rooms, umpire dressing room, concession stand and score booths. This facility has something unusual as ballfields go; all bleachers on the main fields are covered with canopies.
