About the area |
Heflin owes its existence to the Georgia-Pacific Railroad which was completed to the city from Atlanta, Georgia in the 1880's. It also owes its growth to one of its early pioneers who prospered and used his wealth to donate land for schools, churches, and cemeteries in the area. Although Heflin no longer depends upon the railroad; it is a center of shopping, restaurants, business resources and employment for Cleburne County. Cheaha State Park at the edge of Heflin; has lodging, camping, chalets, cabins, hiking trails, mountain biking, a restaurant, and picnic areas. Best of all you can see everywhere from this park; sitting on Alabama's highest point.
