Bessemer County District Court

This court is an annex of the Jefferson County District Court and hears criminal, civil, domestic relations, juvenile, child support, small claims, and traffic cases.

Bessemer was founded in the late 1880's a pioneer industrialist who had a plan to build a city literally from the ground up. He soon became the general mananger of the Eureka Mining Company which was acquired by the city. Other companies around the country began to look at Bessemer as a possible site for relocation. The industrialist founded the the Bessemer Land and Improvement Company, which began surveying the land and plotted streets, parks, and lots around the area and sold its first lot by the end of the 1880's. The Bessemer Civic Center's Main Hall hosts many events including plays, wrestling, boxing, concerts, banquets and exhibitions. It has a seating capacity of 1,600 and a huge stage. In addition the civic center has three large meeting rooms.
