The Carver Theatre which is located in the historic Fourth Avenue Business District is the site of performances by local jazz artists, local comedy and drama. Jazz legends such as Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton have appeared here. The Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame, an art-deco museum which honors great jazz artists with ties to the state of Alabamais is also located in this building. The Alabama Theater which first opened its doors in the 1920's and is one of over America's 5,300 original movie palaces has been restored to its former splendor and is worth a visit. |
