About the area |
This is a town which started its life as a water tank. The water tank was built for the Memphis and Charleston railroad line. With an abundant supply of water from this tank; people began to build their homes near it and the first stores were erected near this water tank laying the foundations of what is now the little town of Gurley. Although the town was originally known as Gurleysville; it was incorporated atthe beginning of the 1890's as Gurley.
