About the area |
This small city of approximately 500 lies near the Huntsville Spring Branch of the Tennessee river. This same waterway flowing into Indian Creek near Triana was found by the Tennessee Valley in the 1970's to be extensively polluted by DDT resulting from the production of that chemical by the Olin corporation at the Redstone Arsenal. The pollution resulted in large amounts of DDT showing up in the blood of several residents of Triana and the death of large numbers of fish on which commercial fisherman in the city depended upon for their living. |
