Each May the City of Arab and Arab's Downtown Association of Merchants hosts the Annual Poke Salat Festival. It is generally believed that the festival derived its name from a salad made Pokeweed which can be seen growing wild in pastures in the area. During the festival would be chefs get to show their stuff at the Amateur BBQ cook-off. There is also a pet parade and lots of entertainment at this two day event. Plenty of games and food, crafter and artisan vendors also. The Arab Historic Village was constructed in the City Park as a tribute to the pioneering people who settled and built the area. The village is open to the public and presently has seven buildings furnished with items from 1880 through the 1940's. At special events here, volunteers perform the tasks required of persons of the 1880-1940's era such as quilting, making cornmeal in the gristmill and working with iron in the blacksmith shop.
