About the area |
The city of Hartselle was first established as a site alongside the South and North Alabama Railroad; but the rairoad caused it to move to the South to make its terrain more practical as a train stop and station. Just before 1920; Hartselle suffered a disastrous fire which wiped out the business district. In the 1920's Fifteen criminals looted the Bank of Hartselle while holding the town was captive for almost four hours by using blasts of nitroglycerin and cutting the three cables linking Hartselle with the outside world. To celebrate the town's railroad heritage an annual Depot Days Festival which features a 5K run, Arts and Crafts Show, Car Show, Tractor Show, Children's Games/Rides, Storytelling, Musical Entertainment as well as plenty of food.
