Rather large city, but SR 21 or SR 148 will get you to most streets. SR 21 will get you to the merged US231/US 280 in the South. |

About the area |
Sylacauga was known of as early as 1540 and mentioned in Fernando DeSoto's records. In the early 1850's, a plank road was built from Montgomery to Winterboro passing through Sylacauga. The first railroad through Sylacauga was the Anniston and Atlantic Railroad in the 1880's. With Sylacauga sitting on a solid deposit approximately 32 miles long by one and one half miles wide and 400 feet deep of the hardest, whitest marble in the world; its not surprising that it's called "The Marble City". |
