About the area |
Many of the outdoor types in Alabama come to the Sipsey Wilderness for the hiking and backpacking possibilities in this area. The area has waterfalls, forested canyons, and sandstone cliffs and formations and over 45 miles of trails. Apopular activity here is exploring Quillan Creek, Hubbard Creek, Parker Branch, and the West Bee Branch. The nearby Sipsey River is one of the last wild, free flowing swamp streams in Alabama. Along this river you can see trees ranging from bald cypress swamps to tupelo gum trees, swamp cottonwood, southern red oak, American elm, sweetgum, yellow popular and American beech.
