This town was originally known as Lewisburg at a time when the Butterfield Overland Mail Company ran through the town. The town of Morrilton was subsequently established in its place. The Rockefeller Legacy gallery, located off the Rockefeller Institute's main lobby is a testament to Winthrop Rockefeller, former governor of Arkansas. His history entwined with that of the state is displayed in an unusual exhibit covering approximately 3,000 square feet and using the visual image of a water drop causing concentric waves. Within this exhibit there are over 300 restored and enlarged photographs in 180 murals and interpretative panels to tell the story of the governor. You can see what a primitive camp used by the Arkansas pioneers was like and learn of their survival skills at the annual Mountain Rendezvous held at the end of November. At this festival there are also demonstrations of muzzleloading rifles and tomahawk throwing.
