About the area |
Lake City began as a trading post, then became a steamboat landing and later a sawmill town. The first person to come to the area, outside of Indians, was a trapper and trader. Others followed him and steamboat travel, on the St. Francis River, came to the trading post now called Old Town. This name remained until around 1878, but as more settlers came to the area the name was changed to Sunk lands. By 1881 when there were additional settlers to the area, the residents and railroad officials decided the name should be Lake City. There are two parks in town; Carter Street and the Wayne Biscuits Short Community park.
