| About the area |
Conway is the home of the University of Central Arkansas and a large town of over 50,000 people and growing fast. First founded around 1875 by a railroad engineer on the Little Rock-Fort Smith railroad who was also given the deed to one square mile of land near the old settlement of Cadron; it soon developed into a plotted town site including the land the engineer gave back to use as the railroad depot. Cadron Settlement park is a National Historic site. In this park you can find the Blockhouse restoration, the Cherokee Trail of Tears exhibits, a boat launching ramp, hiking trails, picnic areas, pavilion, an historical mural of this pioneer settlement, markers and interpretive signs The park has provided parking areas and trails for handicapped persons. The city has 17 parks including a sports complex, which is the site of the Faulkner Country Rodeo Arena and a park, Beaverfork Lake, with a large lake suitable for swimming, boating, and fishing.
