|About the area||
The early settlers came to this area around 1778. As time when on settlers came to homesteads along the the Palarm and Arkansas river but gradually land settlement moved North to the area of present day Mayflower. The name for the town came from the telegraph call for the the railroad construction superintendent for the right of way close to the city. The city was recently subjected to an unfortunate incident. An Exxon Mobil pipeline ruptured creating a river of oil eight feet wide in the Northwoods subdivision of the city. The cleanup crews however did a splendid job erasing all evidence of the damage.
