About the area
The Altus Heritage House museum is located in the old German-American Bank built in the 1800's and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The exhibits display local historical memorabilia and the museum also has a collection of early coal mining equipment accompanied by displays explaining the history of coal mining in the area. On West Commercial street there is a sand-carved mural history storyboard of Ozark’s riparian and agrarian past which is over 50 feet in length and is something to see. There are other murals painted on buildings throughout the city.
