Ozark District Court

Ozark District Court is a district court in the Ozark district of Franklin county. US 64 meets with both SR 23 and SR 219 in Ozark and SR 682 makes an appearance in town as well.

Ozark lies at the northernmost bend in the Arkansas River which is the derivation of its name from the French words “Aux Arc,” meaning at the bend. The city was founded around 1836 although some years earlier French explorers came up the Arkansas River to this area. The first courthouse for this new county seat was completed a few short years after the post office was established around 1837. Union troops burned every business, church, and all but three homes; two of which are still standing. The city recovered when new homes were built and new businesses were founded. Banks, saloons and general merchandise stores opened attracting people who moved back to town. Ozark eventually became one of the leading horse and cattle trading centers in the Arkansas River Valley. Ozark lake formed by the Ozark Jeta Taylor Lock and Dam contains about 10,600 acres of water and the surrounding public land is a State Wildlife Management area. There are recreational facilities here such as picnic and camping amenities, RV Park, boat ramps, hiking trails, playground equipment and overlook pavilion. Anglers will find that the fishing here is good year-round.
