About the area
Nashville was not originally the county seat of Howard county; it resided in Center Point until around 1905 when it was moved to this town. At one time three railroads ran through Nashville. A Missouri Pacific branch from Nashville that ran from Ashdown to Hot Springs was broken up in the early 1920's to form the Graysonia Nashville and Ashdown (GN&A) route and the Murfreesboro Nashville Southwestern line. The latter became the Murfreesboro-Nashville railroad which closed up shop in the early 1950's and the GN&A was sold to Kansas City Southern in the early 2000's. The Elberta Arts center has on display the works of local artists and artists from all over the state and the neon marquee from the 1950′s Elberta Theater.
