| About the area |
Osceola lies along the Mississippi river and the border with Tennessee. With its position along the river, traveling the steamboats, farmers, loggers and settlers began to see the area as very attractive. It originally was given the name Plumb Point. They soon replaced the scouts, hunters and outlaws who inhabited the area. There was an abundance of many different kinds of wood and the rich Delta soil suitable for farming. They soon began to produce huge crops of cotton. Osceola was incorporated twice, around 1853 and then again around 1875 when Mississippi County was formed from a portion of Crittenden County.
