The Southern Tenant Farmers museum in Tyronza is properly housed in the historic Mitchell-East building and adjacent former bank. H. L. Mitchell and Clay East were two of the principal founders of the Southern Tenant Farmers' Union and their businesses were in this building in the 1930's. The exhibits and displays which include photographs, oral history and artifacts portray the farm labor movement in the South and the tenant farming system of agriculture. The mural on the side of the building and it are simply magnificent. Try to get a tour to Whitton Farms to see their giant tomato field, chickens, flower fields, mushroom sanctuary and greenhouse as well as the native plants and herbs. |
