Bauxite District Court

Bauxite District Court is one of the state district courts in Saline county. SR 183 runs through the entire city of Bauxite.

When the town, founded by the Pittsburg Reduction company around 1907, was enjoying the rich economy of the aluminum mines was described as “the Aluminum Capital of the World”. The Bauxite museum which has as its primary purpose the story of the aluminum industry in this area also has a large number of items representative of the 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's in this area. There is a family and community section with pictures, pen and inks of old landmarks. There are everyday items from these periods. The mining section has on display historic photos, various tools, hats and lunch pails used by the miners. The ethnic diversity of the Bauxite's miners as represented by Mexico Camp, Little Africa, Little Italy is shown in the hallway. There is also military memorabilia, pictures of former graduating classes and other school items, and sports highlighting football, softball, basketball and boxing. The life size bronze statue of a miner in the museum honors the memory of local miners.
