About the area

The Newton House museum is a circa 1849 home which was built in Gothic-revival style and has been restored as a museum. The original occupant was a cotton plantation owner who after great success purchased land in town and built this home. Around 1909 the house was moved about a half block to where it is now located. The furnishings are in beautiful shape and are representative of the time when the house was built.
