El Dorado District Court

The El Dorado District court is a state district court. The roads you can travel on in El Dorado are US 63, US 82, US 82 Business, US 167, US 167 Business and SR 15.

The original county seat was in Ecore Fabre, which is now Camden in Ouachita County, near the Ouachita River. Around 1843, county commissioners acting on a petition of the county residents, asked a resident to surrender a large tract of land for the county seat about twelve miles from the river. After the new town of El Dorado was surveyed and laid out, money was approved to build a courthouse. Settlers soon began arriving from Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi although over half the residents of the town were slaves most of whom worked on farms raising corn, peas, beans and sweet potatoes. In the 1920's El Dorado was an oil boom town. There are three historic districts in town. The El Dorado Commercial Historic district has early 20th Century buildings built of brick and masonry. The Mahony Historic District, located just North of the downtown commercial district is a residential area built during the period from 1908 to 1923 and the 1940's and 1950's. The Murphy-Hill Historic District is one of the oldest residential areas in the city of El Dorado and was developed over the period from 1880 to 1957.
