About the area |
Farmington was founded in the 1820's by an settler from Virginia who operated a grist mill along the banks of the Farmington Creek. Although the town was first known as Engles Mill the grist mill owner renamed the town Farmington around 1868 when he had the town laid out with lots which he sold for 25 dollars each. The town's first Post Office was established in the same year and a blacksmith shop, wagon factory, general and drug store and a doctor were already in business. The town was not incorporated until the late 1940's. The primary economy of the city was agricultural with the establishment of farms. The city has two public parks. Creekside Park has a walking trail, picnic tables, benches, a playground, a basketball court, a volleyball pit and a pavilion. Ecology Park is just a small park with a couple of picnic tables.
