About the area

Moorehaven, as is the rest of Glades county, a sparsely populated area. Its per capita income, as well as the county's, is low with a significant number of residents below the poverty level. The county suffered a great deal of damage in the hurricanes of 1926 and 1928. The Caloosahatchee River, which is part of the Intercoastal Waterway, and leads into Lake Okeechobee provides many recreational opportunities. The Lake Okeechobee Scenic trail which winds through the county provides biking and hiking too.
