The courthouse is located near the Caloosahatchee River. At one time Fort Myers was the site of winter homes for Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. It is home to the Southwest Florida symphony. Southwest Florida airport provides air service. Hammond stadium is the spring training site for the Minnesota Twins baseball club. Visitors to the area can enjoy a ballgame of the Fort Myers Miracle baseball team of the Florida State league when the Twins are not in residence.
