Madison (a city) is the county seat of Madison county. Its low property crime and low violent crime figures compared to other similar cities make it a relatively safe place to live. Madison is the home of North Florida Community college an institute known for its programs in security and law enforcement; to which a program in Registered Nursing has been added. Wardlaw-Smith house, an historic house on the US National Register of Historic houses, was recently acquired by the college. A nearby 9 hole golf course, at the Madison Country Club, is open to non-members who are accompanied by a member.
