Nearby Amtrak and Greyhound stations are available for those desiring to travel by other than auto. A short walk from the courthouse brings one to Lake Takopekaglia (Tohopekaliga?) where it's possible to stroll along the shoreline of this vast lake which provides fishing and boating recreational activities. Kissimmee Municipal airport is located near the courthouse. Kissimmee is home to Osceola County stadium; site of the Houston Astros spring training (why can't they train in Texas?). Several golf courses and a venue, Silver Spur Arena, for concerts are in the area. Valencia Community college is also located in the area. The Osceola Parkway provides a direct driving route to Disney World.
Osceola is named for an injun ... um ... an Indian ... no wait, that's still wrong. Oh yeah, a Native American. Some say he liked to drink dark substances. Orlando's airport is just to the northwest by the way. |
