Greenfield District Court

Greenfield District Court is the district court of Adair county in the Fifth judicial district of Iowa. SR 25 crosses SR 92 in the area of Greenfield.

The first settlers to the Greenfield area around 1854 were two men who built cabins on land they did not own. One year later the state of Iowa sold the land to someone who subsequently sold to someone else. This purchaser hired a surveyor to lay out the town. At first the town was served by stagecoach stopping at the first permanent structure in town but around 1879 the railroad came to Greenfield. Even before the arrival of the railroad; the town had 2 general merchandise stores, a harness shop and a blacksmith. However, the railroad now provided service to ship the stock, grain and produce of the area. The E.E. Warren Opera House has been restored to house an art, culture and commerce center with a gallery, auditorium, guest suite and private meeting rooms. Greenfield is home to the Iowa Aviation museum where you can see such antique aircraft as a a 1929 Stearman, a 1931 Kari Keen and a 1928 Curtiss Robin. The Iowa Aviation Hall of Fame is located in this faciilty and honors Iowa’s aviation pioneers.
