Anamosa District Court serves as the district court of Jones county and is located in the Sixth judicial district of Iowa. There are several good roads if Jones county. They include US 151, SR 1, SR 38, SR 64 and SR 136. |

When Anamosa was founded around 1838 it was known as Buffalo Forks and then incorporated as as Lexington around 1856. Apparently the town's eventual name as Anamosa is due to a little Native American family who lived here for a time with her family. The Iowa State Legislature named Anamosa the Pumpkin Capital of Iowa and the city holds Pumpkinfest, a pumpkin festival and weigh-off, every year in October. This event has a Pumpkinfest parade, pumpkin carving exhibits, food and craft booths, pumpkin recipe contest and games. For good measure they throw in a Scarecrow contest, golf tournament, bowling tournament, Hay Bail toss, live music a 5K Run and the annual Chili Cook-Off. Grant Wood, painter of the world famous piece of art, American Gothic, was born on a farm near Anamosa. Each year the annual Grant Wood Art Festival, which had been held in Anamosa, will be held in Stone City to the West. Anamosa is home to the Anamosa Penitentiary, a structure which was built around 1872 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.. |
