The Sigourney district court serves Keokuk county as its district court and is located in the Eighth judicial district of Iowa. There are a few good roads you can use to get around the county such as SR 21, SR 22, SR 78, SR 92 and SR 149.
About the area
If you think that this town, founded around 1844, was named after the actress Sigourney Weaver; it was not, she wasn't even around then. It was named for Lydia Sigourney a popular American poet during the early and middle parts of the 19th century. Can't imagine why the townspeople did that. Maybe they were influenced by her writing. The Dumont museum is known for their antique tractor displays. However they also have exhibits displaying collections of dolls, toys, wagons, machinery and Roy Roger memorabilia. A recent addition to the museum is an operating Lionel Train Layout. There is another museum in town, the Keokuk County Historical Society museum, which has on display artifacts of Keokuk county, photographs, quilts, books, maps and antiques. More importantly they have sets of records which residents are free to use for their genealogy searches. The Old Stone House, circa 1855, is a small structure which is considered to be the oldest house in Sigourney has been restored and is also a museum maintained by the Historical society.
