Onawa District Court

Onawa District Court serves Monona county as its district court and is located in the Third judicial district of Iowa. In addition to having IS 29 running through the Western part of the county, Monona county has SR 37, SR 141, SR 175 and SR 183.

Mixed in with the up to date businesses in this city are the farmland, beautiful old homes, historic museums and Loess Hills. This city which lies between the Loess Hills and the Missouri river likes to live it up with the Monona County Fair, the Annual Swap Meet, Graffiti Night, Lewis & Clark Festival, Ventures and ONABIKE. The Lewis and Clark State park, site of an Lewis and Clark encampment, is the scene of the annual Lewis and Clark festival in June. THis is an exciting event to attend with the presence of buckskinners and mountain men in frontier dress, a full size replica keelboat, black powder shoot, archery competition, bluegrass music and historic presentations. A special feature is the movies about the 1804 expedition. Food is available throughout the three days of the festival and a special treat is the pancake feed on the morning of the third day. There are the Monona County Historical, the Monona County Veteran's Memorial, the Kiwanis Museum complex and the Monona County Historical museums to explore. The museum complex has a restored group of buildings including the Chicago and NorthWestern railroad depot, country school, country church, log cabin, firehouse/jail and blacksmith shop. A Chicago and NorthWestern caboose sits near the depot.
