About the area |
This is a city that is really alive and has much to offer the visitor. The cultural venues and organizations include the Adler Theatre, Quad City Symphony, Figge Art museum and the Putnam Museum of History & Natural Sciences. The art museum has a collection of famous artist Grant Wood's works of art, correspondence and personal effects. The Quad City Symphony presents its Masterworks series at the Adler theatre and its Pops series at LeClaire park. The museums exhibits include the Asian Gallery, Black Earth/Big River, Hall of Mammals, Ocean Experience, River, Prairie and People, View Space, Unearthing Ancient Egypt, Uwé Warúmi/The Trading Place and Putnam-Linwood Mine. Two great musical events occur here every year; the Mississippi Valley Blues festival and the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz festival. Bix Beiderbecke was an American jazz cornetist, jazz pianist, and composer who was a native of Davenport who died an untimely death at the age of 28. The Bix Beiderbecke Youth band performs during the Summer concert series at LeClaire park |
