Iowa State university, located in this city is a good center of culture for the city's residents. The university's Wind ensemble, Symphonic band and Concert band present concerts which are open to the public at C.Y. Stephens Auditorium on campus. The auditorium is also the scene of Broadway productions and appearances by professional entertainers. This institution also has its Fisher Theater for the presentation of drama, dance and university theater productions. Just to the South of the college football stadium are the Reiman Gardens. This site, owned by the university, has both indoor and outdoor areas planted with distinct gardens, an indoor conservatory, an indoor butterfly wing and butterfly emergence cases. During the Summer months you can catch one of the free concerts at Bandshell Park. One of the oldest structures in town is Hoggatt School which has been restored to look as it did in the 1862 time period. This one-room school was Ames’ first public school. It is furnished with items such as a schoolmarm’s desk and bell and reproductions of a 34 star flag and students’ school desks.
