About the area
Two tributes to nature are the Decorah Fish Hatchery and Decorah's famous Eagle's nest. At the hatchery you can see trout of all sizes and fish in Sievers Springs. Across the street from the hatchery is the one ton Eagles Nest which has been featured on CNN, Fox News, CBS News and in the Chicago Tribune. A live feed into the nest provides online watchers with a view of Mom, Dad and baby eaglets throughout their season in this city. Nearby Calmar was at one time a major railroad hub of the Milwaukee railroad between Marquette and Mason City. The Calmar depot still remains, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is used for farmers' and flea markets and other smaller community events. Spillville is the home of the Bily Clocks museum & Antonin Dvorak exhibit. This structure houses a truly amazing exhibit; the collection of hand carved clocks, by the Bily brothers, Frank and Joseph, each of which depicts a particular moment in history, religion or culture. The upper floor of this museum is dedicated to the famous composer who spent a Summer in Spillville where he composed some of his music.
