Pocatello District Court

This courthouse which house the Pocatello District Court, district court of Bannock county, is also home to the magistrate court of Bannock county. These courts are in the Sixth judicial district of Idaho. IS 15 and US 30 run through a good part of Bannock county whereas IS 86 makes a short foray to end at IS 15 in Pocatello.

Bannock county was formed from part of Bingham county around 1893 and named for the Bannock Indians who were the first to live in this area. When pioneers, gold miners and settlers traveled the Oregon Trail passed through the Portneuf Gap South of Pocatello; it became known as the “Gateway to the Northwest.” Now Historic Old Town Pocatello has become the place for stores dealing in clothing, antiques, housewares, sporting goods and art. Add to this the restaurants which have opened in this area and it has become a desirable place to visit. The L.E. & Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts center, Westside Players Community Dinner theater and the Holt Arena are some of the places to enjoy music, theatrical performances and sports events. The Bannock County Historical museum has on display exhibits related to the history of the county including railroad history, early medical practices, a general store, a Victorian era parlor, a Buddhist Shrine, an early photography studio, Prohibition era police evidence, early fire-fighting, local printing history, historic ranching and farming tools, a Holladay Overland Stage Company stagecoach, horse tack and Shoshoni and Bannock photographs and objects of their culture.,
