About the area
At one time the Preston area was known as “The Sand Ridge” and also “The Flat.” The sand, blue and wheat grasses and brush and willows along the streams made for good grazing for the livestock owned by the people of Franklin, which had first been settled around 1860. With its abundance of agricultural production and its position at the terminus of the Utah Northern railroad; Preston became the leading town in Northern Cache Valley. It was incorporated as a village around 1900 and as a city two years later. This is the city of the Famous Preston Night rodeo held at the end of July. Exciting events in this rodeo are bareback, bull and saddle bronc riding; calf and team Roping and steer wrestling, The Grand theatre built around 1930 fell into disrepair after its abandonment. After renovation in the 1990's it was renamed the Worm Creek Opera House and is the scene of live theatre productions and movie shows.
