About the area |
The Gem County Historical Village museum, in Emmett, has large collections of photos, books, newspapers, magazines and records and consists of a five building complex. The annual Cherry festival held in June features a parade, the Gem County Sheriff Posse's rodeo, a model railroad display, a quilt show, softball tournament, a car show and a firemen hose competition. At one time wagoneers had to lock or âfreezeâ their wagon wheels and slide down a hill when entering the Emmett Valley. This spot is now called Freezeout Hill and is marked with a signboard with an explanation of the name. The Harvest Festival Street fair held in October is characterized by the arts and crafts and food vendors and the non-stop entertainment provided by bands and other acts. The kids will get a kick out of the hay rides provided at this fair. |
