If you want to see Paris, you do not need to travel all the way to France; you may just come to the county seat of Edgar County taking the U.S. Route 150 and Illinois State Route 1 which will take you to the heart of this lovely community. Paris Township has an estimated population of 9100 inhabitants, with 5.5 square miles of territory elevated more than 720 feet above sea level. Edgar County, founded back in the 1820s, was named for pioneer John Edgar who served the Royal Navy before becoming a merchant man. This territory of almost 625 square miles of extension shares frontiers with Vigo and Vermilion Counties in Indiana State, and also Coles, Vermilion, Clark, Douglas and Champaign Counties in Illinois State. |
