About the area
Native Americans inhabitants gave name to this land before the major settlements took place; when Iroquiois territory was full of the people from the Mohawk, Oneida, Seneca, Onondaga, Cayuga and Tuscarora tribes. This fertile, green, kind, and peaceful community is actually one of the top five producers of soybeans in the entire Country, and its also home of approximately 30600 residents. More than 1115 square miles of territory are served by Watseka City as its county seat, which shares frontiers with Newton and Benton Counties in Indiana State; these are just some of the short details constituing the profile of this land founded back in the 1830s and divided in twenty-six townships, three cities, and more than twenty villages.
