About the area |
Jasper County was named after William Jasper, a Sergeant of the Revolution. This community blessed with a strategic location in the nest of Indianapolis, St. Louis, and Chicago is today home of more than 10100 people and almost 2850 families. The counties of Crawford, Clay, Cumberland, Effingham, Richland, and Clark share borderlines with this territory of 500 square miles of extension established back in the early 1830s from puzzle pieces of Clay and Crawford Counties. Jasper County Community Unit School District 1 serves the population of this land regarding the primary education needs, while Newton City serves its people as the county seat, managing all the county operations and governmental issues.
