About the area |
Hartford City is between I75 and I69. State Road 3 runs NS and State Road 26 runs EW. The railroad crosses NS through the middle of this City of 7,000. There are four parks here, a public swimming pool and 2 golf courses. Lake Placid offers fishing. George D. Stevens was a leading citizen here in the last century. He was an executive at the paper mill, a philanthropist,, and a member of Rotary Club and Elks and Mason Lodges. It was only at his funeral in 1940 that people learned he was a black man. In the 1920's the blacks had left due to Ku Klux Klan activities. He stuck out his masquerade. |
