About the area |
Nothing here but buffalo and Indians when Petersburg was founded in 1817. The Wabash and Erie Canal went by here. Today there's the Buffalo Trace and Lincoln Heritage trails. The Goodlet Morgan home was a stop on the Underground Railroad (passage to freedom for slaves). Baseball great Gil Hodges grew up here. The bridge on Highway 57 over the White River was named for him. A bust of him is in the Courthouse Rotunda. |
