At the Fort Scott National Historic Site there are historic structures and exhibits that are representative of the important era of our country's history during which the opening of the West, the Permanent Indian Frontier, the Mexican-American War, Bleeding Kansas, the Civil War and the expansion of railroads took place. The things you can see here are truly awe inspiring. The Block House (Fort Henning) is one of three structures built as additional fortifications to the Fort to protect its expanded role during the Civil War period and the only one remaining. |
