About the area |
Bird city sits near the Arikaree Breaks, an area of extremely rough terrain with deep ravines and gullies. The Tri-State Antique Engine & Thresher Show, which celebrates the rural heritage of the area, is held here in July. There are demonstrations of threshing grain, plowing, pony brake and Baker fan testing, operating stationary engines and a sawmill. There are also steam engine races and there is a parade of all antique equipment each day of this three day event. There is plenty of food offered at the community pot luck meal and the Lion's club barbeque and live music. While you are at the show try to visit the sod house, country church and the schoolhouse on the showgrounds. |
