About the area |
Lonford came about along a spur of the Sante Fe railroad to Abilene around 1875 and has not really gone anywhere since then with a population of under 100. The town boasts the purest water in Kansas, but the word doesn't seem to have gotten out; they aren't moving here in droves. The big attraction in town is the Railroad mural on Main Street which depicts life in Longford in the days when the railroad was the main form of transportation. The Longford Rodeo Club, the Longford Lions Club and the town sponsors the annual Professional Rodeo Cowboys Associationsanctioned Longford rodeo held on Labor day weekend each year. Come to this show to see cattle drives and cowboy recreation of the 1800s.
